Project Description

Pharmaceutical Industry

TYPE OF INDUSTRYPharmaceutical Industry, Himachal Pradesh, India

YEAR OF IMPLEMENTATION2016

PROBLEMS

  • High Harmonic Distortion
  • Low power factor
  • High KVAH consumption
  • Frequent breakdown in VFDs

OBSERVATIONS

After conducting Power Quality Audit in the plant, following observations are made:

  • 5th & 7th Harmonics are getting amplify due to resonance effects between conventional type APFC (w/o Harmonic Filters) & Transformer impedance.

  • The Amplification of Harmonics cause frequent failure in VFDs drives.

SOLUTION

  • Detune Resonance condition by providing suitable Passive Harmonic Filter Banks.

  • Add Digitally controlled Active Harmonic Filter Bank to control THDI & THDV < 5% as per IEEE 519-1992

Project Implementation

Design, Manufacturing & Installation of Hybrid Harmonic Filter Banks -Automatic Passive Harmonic filter bank 1500 kvar and Digitally controlled Active Harmonic filter banks of 150A, 3ph,4 wire at main incomer.

System Improvement Post Implementation

RESULT

  • THDI & THDV reduced to < 5%.
  • The 5th & 7th Harmonics current are reduced.
  • PF improvement to unity (1.0) from 0.94 lag
  • Apprx 6 % saving in KVA.
  • Reduction in Electrical Breakdown in the Plant.
